You Won’t Be a Number Here

If you’ve been reading my previous blogs, you already know what the benefits of studying in Canada are.  One of the words used in my last post was flexibility, which is a trademark of Bishop’s University.  More on flexibility in a minute, but first I want to introduce you to my alma mater.

​The Church of England founded Bishop’s University in 1843 and the architecture mirrors that of many UK institutions from the 14th to 18th centuries.  Located 1.5 hours southeast of Montreal (approximate population 2 million) in the Borough of Lennoxville (approximate population 5,600), Bishop’s is an area reminiscent of the Malvern Hills region and provides amazing outdoor pursuits opportunities including downhill and cross-country skiing; kayaking; hiking; biking; and more.  Bishop’s is an intimate community of 2,500 students that come from 64 countries, who study in the areas of languages, fine arts, music, humanities, social sciences, business, education, and natural sciences.

Three words are used to describe Bishop’s: Community; Engagement and Flexibility.

Bishop’s is a one of a kind institution in Canada.  Indeed, Bishop’s is the ONLY University in Quebec and one of only a few in Canada, to offer a primarily undergraduate, liberal education model.  Our mission is to provide the best undergraduate education to our students.  Our students receive an exceptional personalized academic experience thanks to our intimate class sizes, leading edge facilities, student support systems, our largely full-time faculty and our bilingual (English/French) learning environment.  We encourage our students to pursue interdisciplinary studies in diverse areas so that they gain a broad foundation of knowledge about the wider world.  This flexibility allows them to pursue multiple areas of interest, but it also allows them to approach questions from many viewpoints when trying to seek answers providing a more holistic view.
